
| | Sustainable design involves the systems approach to design and construction for facilities, systems, and equipment that insures consideration of the optimization of ecological and human issues. For architecture, this means "green design" or design that delivers buildings and communities with lower environmental impacts while enhancing health, productivity, community, and quality of life. Sustainable and green design is continuing to grow in the United States. Recent statistics show that approximately 3 percent of all new construction in the U.S. is pursuing certification through the green building rating system from the US Green Building Council and many more buildings are greatly influenced by the rating system.
